HYDROX 21

HYDROX 21 ia a sterntube mineral based lubricant delivering superior performance and wear protection even when water ingress occurs.

HYDROX 21 provides an excellent level of lubrication in both neat and emulsion forms. It is developed primarily for use in sterntubes. 

The product provides:

HYDROX 21 is recommended for use particularly where problems of oil leakage past the aft seals is experienced.

HYDROX 21 is compatible with most engine oils and system oils commonly used in the sterntube and can therefore be introduced by top-up procedure to the existing sterntube oil. A minimum of 50% is recommended as the initial charge, however, the lubricant offers the greatest benefit when used to completely fill the sterntube system.

FEATURES

• HYDROX 21 will absorb any sea or fresh water which may enter the sterntube to form a relatively fluid emulsion which remains stable and therefore reduces the risk of free  water being present in the sterntube. Both products provide an excellent level of  lubrication in both neat and emulsion forms. Conventional oils do not emulsify in the same way and tend to separate, exposing components to free water and potential wear damage.
• HYDROX 21 is compatible with most commonly used engine oils and can therefore be introduced by adding to the existing sterntube oil using the normal top up procedure.
• HYDROX 21 will absorb a very high amount of water. Above 10% water content, it is recommended that some of the emulsion is drained from the system and fresh lubricant added.
• HYDROX 21 is recommended for use particularly where vessels require emergency assistance in reducing the leakage past a damaged or worn AFT seal. It has proven very effective in reducing the rate of leakage. A reduction of up to 70% can be achieved, but cannot be guaranteed in all cases.
• HYDROX 21 is most effective when used to completely fill the sterntube system. It is compatible with most engine oils commonly used in the sterntube and can therefore be introduced by top up procedure, adding HYDROX 21 to the existing sterntube oil. When initially introducing HYDROX 21, we recommend a minimum 50% of the sterntube oil is changed to HYDROX 21.
