HYDROX BIO is a range of environmentally acceptable lubricants, based on synthetic esters, which provide an excellent level of lubrication in both neat and emulsion forms. Approved by many of the leading OEMs such as KEMEL, SKF Marine and Wärtsilä and for up to 5 years when used with OEM elastomers recommended for EALs.
The HYDROX BIO range meets the detailed ecological definitions and requirements laid down in the 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP) published by the US EPA in March 2013.
For sterntubes, stabiliser bearings and CPP hubs.
HYDROX BIO 150 (both neat oil and emulsion including 20% water contamination) has been successfully tested by Class and its stability, lubricating and corrosion protection performance has been verified by Lloyds Register.
HYDROX BIO 150 is for use if the shipyard or Classification Society recommends an ISO VG 150 sterntube EAL. The product meets new Class rules and recommendations for sterntube bearing lubrication and gives
improved oil film thickness under severe conditions as may arise if the AFT bearing is subject to edge loading. This can occur when the design tolerances or other factors are marginal.
The HYDROX BIO range achieves a biodegradability of greater than 60% in the 28 day OECD 301B test. These products are considered non-toxic in the marine environment based on the following results:
The HYDROX BIO range provides:
The HYDROX BIO range will absorb any sea or fresh water which may enter the sterntube to form relatively fluid emulsion which remains stable and therefore reduces the risk of free water being present in the sterntube.
The HYDROX BIO range provides an excellent level of lubrication in both neat and emulsion forms. Above 10% water content, it is recommended that some of the emulsion is drained from the system and fresh lubricant added. Conventional oils do not emulsify in the same way and tend to separate, exposing components to free water and potential wear damage.
